Condair supports humidity petition to the World Health Organization

Condair Group supports Dr Stephanie Taylor in her petition www.40to60RH.com to have the World Health Organization review the evidence related to indoor humidity and health, and set global guidelines on a minimum lower limit for public buildings. Dr Stephanie Taylor is an infection control consultant at Harvard Medical School, and a member of the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Group.

Oliver Zimmermann, CEO at Condair Group, comments, “At Condair Group, it is our mission to make interiors a safer place and by doing this, actively contribute to the protection of people’s health globally. We are excited to see Dr Stephanie Taylor take this important message that we need a minimum lower limit of indoor humidity directly to the World Health Organization. In order to improve indoor air quality standards, we need official guidelines to reflect the scientific evidence.”

“The COVID-19 crisis shows us how critical it is that we place management of the built environment at the very center of disease control. Many scientific studies have demonstrated that the ideal indoor humidity level of between 40-60%RH significantly reduces the spread of respiratory infections. There is no guidance from the WHO recommending this level as a necessity for air treatment systems in public buildings.”

“Please join me and my colleagues in signing Dr Taylor’s petition for the WHO to produce an IAQ guideline on a minimum lower limit of humidity. This would encourage regulators around the world to review and update their currently inadequate IAQ standards. This natural solution could significantly reduce the number of seasonal respiratory illnesses, such as the flu, reduce absenteeism, hugely benefit the world economy and most importantly, save lives!”

The petition is available to be signed at www.40to60RH.com and is also backed by renowned leaders in the scientific and healthcare community such as immunobiologist from Yale University, Prof Dr Akiko Iwasaki, Professor and Director of the Institute of Neuropathology at the University of Zurich, Prof Dr Adriano Aguzzi and Dr Walter Hugentobler, General Physician and former lecturer at the Inst. of Primary Care, University of Zurich.
